16th KKIFF culminates with Golden Kinabalu Awards Night

The 16th Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF) concluded with a rousing Golden Kinabalu Awards Night at the Hilton last Saturday, after an eight-day marathon of events like Cinebalu Screenings, Sweet10 Filmmakers’ Competition, Sabah Film Lab and a Sabah Pitching Training which spanned over eight days.

The awards shine a spotlight on promoting creativity, talent and storytelling.

Festival Director, Jude Day, noted: “The blockbuster is commercial, its aim is to make lots of money while entertaining its audience.

“On the other hand movies made for film festivals allow directors to explore ideas and themes… with the intention of… having the audience think about ideas and issues.”
